HSPA+'s evolution continues with R9 & R10
HSPA+ Rel. 9 and Rel.10 further expand the multicarrier, continuing the strong evolution of HSPA+. Rel. 9 supports aggregation across spectrum bands and brings in uplink multicarrier (10 MHz). Rel. 10 increases the aggregation to four carriers making HSPA+ suitable for 20 MHz deployments.
Rel. 9 benefits:
- 84 Mbps downlink peak data rates by combining multicarrier and 2x2 MIMO
- Multicarrier across spectrum bands, leveraging all spectrum resources
- 23 Mbps uplink peak data rates and doubled capacity for busty applications using uplink multicarrier
Rel. 10 benefits:
- Up to 168 Mbps downlink peak data rates using 20 MHz
- Evolution toward femto networks
- Increased performance with uplink transmit diversity
The standardization of Rel. 9 is already complete and development of Rel. 10 is in full swing with completion expected toward the end of 2010.
