Derek Aberle
Executive Vice President and President of Qualcomm Technology Licensing
Derek Aberle serves as executive vice president and president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL). He is responsible for overseeing all activities pertaining to Qualcomm's technology and intellectual property (IP) licensing business, including negotiating and administering the Company's IP license agreements. QTL is responsible for, among other things, licensing Qualcomm's patents to companies worldwide for the design, manufacture and sale of products using its patented technologies. Aberle is also a member of Qualcomm's Executive Committee.
In 2000, Aberle joined QTL after supporting Qualcomm as outside counsel for several years. He has played a key role in negotiating and finalizing important new agreements with many of our leading licensees, including Ericsson/Sony Ericsson, LGE, Motorola, Nokia and Nortel. Aberle served as senior vice president and general manager of QTL prior to his current role.
Aberle holds a bachelor's degree in business economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a law degree from the University of San Diego.
