QC Days

Qualcomm Wireless Experience at Stanford and Berkeley, Feb 2009

During the last week of February, Qualcomm hosted days of ‘Qualcomm Wireless Experience’ at Stanford and Berkeley EE-CS. Corporate R&D and Qualcomm is dedicated to having a closer research collaboration with the top universities, and the focus of these events was on exposing the rich variety of wireless research being conducted at Qualcomm. The events were attended by between 70-90 graduate students and faculty.

Each event opened with a seminar outlining Qualcomm, research at Corp R&D, and the new Bay Area location of Qualcomm and CRD. The overview talk was followed by a series of three technical seminars – on wide ranging topics from the traditional ‘Interference Cancelation with OFDMA ’ to new areas like ‘Android at QC’. The seminars were interspersed with challenging questions, exhibiting keen interest from the audience.

The talks were followed by a mixer with food, drinks and animated conversation. The events were very well received by the students and faculty. Students were particularly interested to learn about the wide variety of work going on in Qualcomm, above and beyond classical WAN technologies and communication theory. Several students indicated their eagerness to intern with some of the projects outlined during the talks. There was also a fair bit of pleasant surprise in Qualcomm exhibiting such commitment and enthusiasm to their academic relationship, especially given the tough economic times.

Qualcomm looks forward to enhanced collaboration with the departments of EECS at these two great universities.
