Safety
Our Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) provides a map to how we manage our Environmental Health & Safety program. The key components to the IIPP are management involvement, health and safety training, safety audits, incident investigation, and safety communications. Utilizing all these components has helped Qualcomm maintain an incident rate below the national average.Qualcomm offers a wide range of safety and health training programs including:

- Hazard Communication
- Lab Safety
- Ergonomic Safety
- Back Safety
- CPR/First Aid/AED Training
- Supervisor Safety Training
- Bloodborne Pathogens
In addition to workplace training we offer safety advice on our internal QualNet. Recent topics have focused on: Mobile Computing (ergonomic tips for business travelers) and how to prepare for and respond to natural disasters.
Lab Safety Program
Our newly developed Lab Safety Program will provide a safer working environment for lab employees and guests. The program ensures compliance with OSHA, with an emphasis on minimizing hazardous waste (all of which is properly disposed or recycled). Also included in the Lab Safety Training is a focus on ergonomic awareness and workstation design. These improvements are not only intended to reduce injuries but increase worker efficiency.
Emergency Response
Qualcomm maintains an emergency response team and fire marshals for its domestic locations. The teams consist of volunteers to whom Qualcomm provides on-going training and support. Their role is to respond to emergencies that affect the health and safety of employees and protect company property and assets.
Safety Performance
Qualcomm compares its safety performance to established benchmarks. As reported by the California Division of Industrial Relations, Qualcomm continues to lead its peers in the wireless communications industry in terms of injury prevention.
In calendar year 2007, Qualcomm’s incident rate was 1.6, 24% less than the California average for the wireless communications industry.
