A trusted partner to federal, state and local government agencies, Qualcomm Government Technologies (QGOV) is working to ensure that the public safety sector is equipped with advanced wireless communication technologies that bolster their ability to keep the communities in which we live and work safe.
For public safety agencies such as police and fire departments, having real-time access to critical information is vital. But often, information can't be shared across multiple systems in real time. Or, details about an incident can only be dispatched to police or fire units in one city.
QGOV is expanding its efforts in the public safety sector to improve the capabilities of the people who protect and serve our communities by better leveraging devices already being used (many of which are enabled by Qualcomm technologies), and taking a holistic approach to developing solutions that assist in day-to-day jobs.
"Our goal is to utilize our expertise and assist the public safety sector in accessing their numerous voice and data systems anytime, anywhere, over any device and network," says Bill Maheu , QGOV Senior Director of Business Development.
"We're working to provide solutions that can assist in every step of the process by using what we already have and bringing in partners to provide the best technologies and standardize them across agencies." Bill adds.
Qualcomm's own solutions include enhanced voice and data capabilities to mobile devices; secure, encrypted cell phones over commercial networks; baseband chips that allow satellite connectivity in cell phones; laptops fitted with Gobi chips in police cars; and technology to help recover lost or stolen phones without the thief's knowledge.
